About D. Daniel Sutherland

I've lived in the Durham Region of Ontario (just east of Toronto) for most of my life.

I grew up here, married my Practice Wife here, had two kids and raised them here, met my Forever Wife and Bonus Daughter here and will like stay in this area for the rest of my years.

I had a successful (and very busy) career as executive sales within the video game industry for 25 years, and was then downsized with 1000 people one day. There's a whole story about all of that and what happened after, but I will share that if we ever get a chance to speak in person.

In 2017, I obtained my Real Estate license and immersed myself in this industry. I quickly learned that it's rather unique and has a great many different personalities, opinions and levels of professionalism and dedication. If we want to be honest about it... Real Estate is... a noisy business! Although the formula for success is simple, it's definitely not easy. (I do tend to blame social media and HGTV for making it look like ANYONE can succeed in this business. Looking at the data of the small percentage of agents that do 10+ transactions a year certainly creates a strong argument against that statement!)

Within my first year, I decided to focus my attention on helping, educating and protecting Seniors as it pertains to Real Estate. I enjoy taking my time to get to know their situations and plans, and to increase their confidence in their options. I obtained my SRES (Seniors Real Estate Specialist) and ASA (Accredited Senior's Agent) designation and have maintained them since. The ASA has actually transitioned to a Lifestyle55+ Affiliate, and I updated that designation with them.

Over the years, I have grown partnerships with completmentary services and people that also provide support to our Seniors. I have become a business partner with the OSCC55+ (Oshawa Seniors Community Centres) and do monthly Seniors Real Estate Info Sessions, as well as other events and activities. I have joined DACCS (Durham Advisory Committee for Community Services) and AFC (Age-Friendly Consulting) which are both excellent groups of like-minded, Senior-focused people. In addition to that, there is a smaller group of us that have formed The HOPE Group (Helping Our Precious Elders). In all of these groups, we share ideas and have grown confident in referring higher-quality service and support for our clientele.

All of that said, the extra attention and care I provide my clients also works very well for First-Time Buyers, First-Time Sellers and anyone else that wants more confidence and support through the process.

I also find myself being asked for advice and support from other agents (whether on my team, at my brokerage or elsewhere), and am always willing to have a chat. Having a previous career based in Relationship Selling has certainly provided a nice foundation for this career in real estate. Although many of us succeed with different styles, I've found that this style works for me and seems to work for some others, too.

If I can help with clients in or around the Durham Region, or provide any advice regarding Seniors within Real Estate, feel free to reach out to me directly.

Daniel
